Okitsu Wase Satsuma Mandarin Oranges
The Okitsu originated as a nucellar seedling of Miyagawa from a controlled pollination with Poncirus trifoliate made by Doctors M. Kajiura and T. Iwasaki at the Horticultural Research Station, Okitsu, in 1940.
This fruit is seedless with good flavor and low acid content. The Satsumas are cold hardy and form a compact growing tree. They are the earliest mandarins in the marketplace.
